The Twelve Beers of Christmas- II

Belgian Christmas beer- with Cherubs!

We travel overseas to find the second of the Twelve Beers of Christmas.  In  this case, all the way to Binche, Belgium.  La Binchoise has been brewing beer here since 1986, which in Belgian brewing terms makes them relative new-comers.  After all, this is a country where it is not uncommon to find brewers that have been in the game for centuries.

Despite being newbies, La Binchoise has managed to put out some award winning and delicious beer.  Including their Christmas specialty, Speciale Noel.

The beer pours out a hazyy burnt orange with a pale tan head.  The scent is predominantly orange peel and muted “Christmas” spices, which both show up in the flavor along with sweet caramel tones.  Spectacular finish: long, warm ,spicy and sweet at first which is balanced by a pleasant tartness at the tail end.  Deceptively drinkable for a 9% beer.  Tastes like Christmas in Belgium!
