It took two plane flights, forty minutes on a bus and a half an hour standing in line just to get in, but I made it to my favorite beer event: the Great Canadian Beer Festival. More than fifty craft breweries, plus some amazing cask conditioned ales equals beergeek nirvana!
The crowd was large and thirsty (possibly due to the 30 degree temps and clear, sunny skies), with every one excited to try some new and unique brews. As usual, the brewers stepped up their game. There was some great stuff from new (Coal Harbour had a HUGE line-up for their Bourbon Aged Breakfast Stout) and new-to-me breweries (Beau’s Brewery had a tasty Festivale Altbier). As well, some of the usual suspects brought their “A” game: Phillips Beer showed up with “10th Year IPA”, our good friends at Tree Brewing Co. had a Cask Conditioned Cutthroat Pale Ale, and Swans Buckerfield’s Brewery had their wonderful Coconut Porter, among many, many highlights.
