And you thought I forgot. The life and times of the Scottish “Ploughman Poet” Robert Burns are celebrated today. For those of you celebrating with the traditional haggis, you can find some beer pairings for the Scottish national dish here (as well as some wine and spirit matches). Rumor has it that the Scotland’s favorite son was known to enjoy a wee drop himself now and again. In honor of this day, I give you a quote from the Bard of Ayrshire himself:
“Inspiring bold John Barleycorn,
What dangers thou canst make us scorn!
Wi’ tippeny, we fear nae evil,
Wi’ usquebae, we’ll face the devil!”
