As I get a little longer in the tooth, I find that things tend to get me “worked up” less. I try to put less energy in to negative emotions like anger, bitterness or jealousy. But I have to confess, I am a little bit jealous of each and every one of the people who had tickets to the Rare Beer Breakfast at Stone Brewing World Bistro and Gardens. Culinary treats matched with beer treats- at breakfast! What’s not to like? Still in California, and really it could ONLY be from California, you can still land tickets for the Vegan Beer Fest. Gotta admit, I didn’t see that one coming. Off to Minnesota, in particular Lucan, Minnesota (pop. 220). It is here that the aptly named Brau family produces Brau Brothers beers. As is explained in this article, the size of the town works both for and against them. But with a name like Brau, you know they’re going to make it in the brewing industry. This just in: according to nacsonline St. Louis brewers are experimenting with a new style, sour beer, made by using live yeast streams and lactic acid bacteria. To which we can only say, “New style?!” There are probably a couple of Belgian brewers who might argue that the style has been around for a while…
And finally, November 11 is almost upon us. Please show respect and support for those who stood up for, fought for and died for our liberty. Wear a poppy, and observe a minute of silence. In the words of Laurence Binyon:
“They shall not grow old, as we that are left grow old,
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
We will remember them.”
